The Laudato Tree Project

Support to build the Great Green Wall - Help to Plant Trees in Sahel (Africa)

The Great Green Wall is one of the most inspirational and urgent movements of our times. This African-led initiative aims to grow an 8000km new world wonder across the entire width of the Continent to transform the lives of millions living on the frontline of climate change.

The Laudato Tree Project is an Irish contribution to an incredible global initiative. The Great Green Wall project will planted millions of trees in 13 countries right across Africa. What’s more, for a donation of just €20 (just €1.67 per month), you can help us extract 40 tons of CO2 over the lifespan of every tree planted.

The Great Green Wall of Africa: Fight against climate change

The Laudato Tree Project was conceived by the Society of African Missions (SMA) as a living legacy to Pope Francis’ environmental and development encyclical Laudato Si’. Inaugurated in 2018 by the President of Ireland, the project’s partners include the UNCCD (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification), the African Union, The Tree Council of Ireland, ORGIIS and Aduna.
