The Francis of Assisi Academy for the Protection of the Earth (FAA) is an ecumenical academic organization, founded 1995 as a specifically Christian contribution to the European Nature Conservation Year (ENCY 95) at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. The Academy works on regional, european and global level. Working frameworks are the ENCYCLICAL LETTER LAUDATO SI’of the Holy Father Francis and the ENCYCLICAL LETTER UT UNUM SINT - On commitment to Ecumenism of Pope Saint John Paul II.
The academy was initiated by the Environment Unit of the Student Convent and the university administration. The academy was founded from the Environmental Working Group and members of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt,the Council of the Diocese of Eichstätt (Environment Comittee) with support of the Council of Europe (Deacon J.P. Ribaut, Direction of Environment) and the founding members.
The academy is founding member of the European Christian Environmental Network founded 1998.
Our central mission is "to conserve, protect and restore the health and integrity of the Earth's ecosystem" (RIO DECLARATION ON ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT).
The purpose of the academy is the promotion of education, science and research for the protection of the Earth and Humanity and here especially in the following areas:
Our academy is a dedicated to further promoting knowledge and implementation of the encyclical laudato si. We support the change to a global sustainable development and the implementation of Laudato Si with innovative, ethical and scientific projects.
