CELEBRATION OF THE WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE CARE OF CREATION
St. Peter's Basilica , 1St September 2016
"United with our Orthodox brothers and sisters, and with the support of other Churches and Christian communities, the Catholic Church today marks the “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation”. This Day offers “individual believers and communities a fitting opportunity to reaffirm their personal vocation to be stewards of creation, to thank God for the wonderful handiwork which he has entrusted to our care, and to implore his help for the protection of creation as well as his pardon for the sins committed against the world in which we live.”
World Council of Churches: Pray and care for Creation
The Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, general secretary of the World Council of Churches, invites the WCC's 348 member churches and their more than 500 million members to join with Christians of all traditions and on all continents marking a special time of prayer, reflection and care for Creation between 1 September and 4 October.
"September 1st is Creation Day"
Message of His All Holiness, Patriarch Bartholomew, the "Green" Patriarch, for the day of prayer for the protection of the Environment (01/09/2015):
"As everyone knows, September 1st of each year has been dedicated at the initiative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate – and recently also by the Roman Catholic Church – as a day of prayer for the protection of the natural environment.”
“On this day, we especially beseech the supreme God to gladden His creation so that human life therein may be joyful and fruitful. This prayer includes of course the petition that the inevitable natural climate changes may occur and be permitted within tolerable levels both for human survival and for the planet’s sustainability".
